Mitas Mousse

Description

Mitas mousses were developed to fit perfectly Mitas motocross, enduro, extreme enduro and rally tyres. Development  and  testing has been supported by top off-road riders on multiple types of terrain.

Mitas mousse is available in several 18 to 21-inch sizes and three different versions:

Each Mousse comes complete with an instruction guide and a tube of special formula highly durable mousse lubricant which reduces friction between mousse and tyre which is important to keep operating temperatures low.

To ensure optimum rim/tyre/mousse fitment and consistent performance during the life of your mousse and tyre it is important to use the correct size mousses

Tyre manufacturers may measure their tyre at different points so it is important to fit a mousse which is the correct size and has been developed and tested for your tyre.

Mitas mousse has been developed in conjunction with Mitas sponsored and test riders. Numerous versions of the product were tested in combination with Mitas tyre on different terrains and in a variety of weather conditions. Mitas Mousse fits perfectly into Mitas branded motocross, enduro and extreme enduro tyres.

Mousse are notoriously difficult to fit but don’t be tempted to fit a smaller sized mousse because in the end this can prematurely destroy the mousse and the tyre.

Always fit rim locks in the front and rear wheels. Without a rim lock the tyre can easily spin on the rim, leading to poor grip and friction-heat which rapidly damages the mousse. Wheels may be put out of balance with rim locks, however it is possible to balance the wheel with stick on weights to the rim, or weights wrapped round the spokes. A well balanced wheel will not generate wheel hop at high speeds.

Mousses are designed for off-road competition use and are not road legal. If you do end up riding on asphalt for any reason and distance, keep speeds moderate (max approx 50mph/80kmh) or your mousses will disintegrate quickly. Adventure riders have used mousses on off-road tours, but this is NOT the norm and unless your tour contains less than a couple of hundred miles of asphalt heavy duty tubes are much more forgiving.

There is a shelf life on our Mousse to ensure high performance and to encourage riders not to use very old mousses. Each manufacturer has their own measure of optimization and unless you are a world championship racer you will probably not feel any performance decrease particularly with an old tyre.

Mitas has extended its mousse range with a new rally version to meet the specific demands of rally racers from all over the world.

The most demanding test was performed by rider Simon Marčič during the arduous 2022 Dakar Rally.
